ABOUT EMMAUS The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. The program's approach seriously considers the model of Christ's servanthood and encourages Christ's disciples to act in ways appropriate to being "a servant of all." The Walk to Emmaus experience begins with a 72-hour short course in Christianity, comprised of fifteen talks by lay and clergy on the themes of God's grace, disciplines of Christian discipleship, and what it means to be the church. The course is wrapped in prayer and meditation, special times of worship and daily celebration of Holy Communion. The "Emmaus community," made up of those who have attended an Emmaus weekend, support the 72-hour experience with a prayer vigil, by preparing and serving meals, and other acts of love and self-giving. The Emmaus Walk typically begins Thursday evening and concludes Sunday evening. Men and women attend separate weekends. During and after the three days, Emmaus leaders encourage participants to meet regularly in small groups. The members of the small groups challenge and support one another in faithful living. Participants seek to Christianize their environments of family, job, and community through the ministry of their congregations. The three-day Emmaus experience and follow-up groups strengthen and renew Christian people as disciples of Jesus Christ and as active members of the body of Christ in mission to the world. —from What Is Emmaus? • Camp Knifley | emmaus

Camp Knifley serves as the primary home for the Campbellsville Emmaus Community, acting as a spiritual home base for their 72-hour walks, monthly gatherings held on the third Saturday of each month, and Sunday afternoon walk closings. Located at 12190 Knifley Road in Adair County, Kentucky, the camp is situated about 19 miles northeast of Columbia near the Taylor County border. The site sits within a rural, unincorporated community with a unique history; the original town of Knifley was actually relocated two miles north in the 1960s to facilitate the creation of Green River Lake. The surroundings and atmosphere of the camp are defined by their proximity to the northern finger of Green River Lake State Park. This area is characterized by heavily forested tracts, rolling meadows, and the scenic views typical of Kentucky’s Highland Rim. True to the "Emmaus" experience, the setting is quiet and secluded, offering plenty of open space and timberland to help participants remove distractions and find peace. Nearby landmarks include the Pikes Ridge Campground, which offers a swimming beach and hiking trails, while the city of Campbellsville is located about 20 to 25 minutes away for anyone requiring significant shopping or medical services. Because cell service can be spotty in these rural pockets of Adair County, it is highly recommended to download maps or write down directions before traveling deep into the Knifley area.

ABOUT Emmaus The Campbellsville Emmaus Community is a local group dedicated to building a strong, supportive family of believers across Taylor, Adair, Green, Marion, and Washington counties. While based in Campbellsville, their mission is to bring Christians from all walks of life together to grow closer to God and to one another. The heart of this community is found in their 72-hour spiritual retreats called "Walks," held at Camp Knifley, where participants can step away from the world to focus entirely on their faith and find a sense of belonging with other believers. This community is powered by volunteers from many different local churches who believe that faith is meant to be shared. To keep this bond strong, they hold monthly meetings called Gatherings, which always take place at Camp Knifley. These Gatherings are a time for worship, food, and catching up, ensuring that the friendships formed during the retreats continue to flourish. They also host special services at local spots like Elk Horn Baptist Church and New Journey Church, which help spread their message of unity and keep the community active and growing throughout the region. A major part of their work is investing in the future by growing a community of young believers through Chrysalis, a program specifically for teenagers and young adults. By connecting people of all ages across county lines, the Campbellsville Emmaus Community creates a network of "reunion groups" where people can hold each other accountable and offer encouragement. This focus on constant connection helps turn a simple three-day retreat into a lifelong journey, helping people from different towns and churches grow together as one united family of faith. Additionally, there will be a Special Service (Walks) at Elk Horn Baptist Church, also at 7:30 PM. To our Emmaus and Chrysalis Community, We hear your concerns regarding the decision not to publish names for upcoming walks and flights. After seeking legal counsel, we want to clarify that we cannot publish names on public sites, even with consent. Legal loopholes and safety concerns—such as domestic or custody issues—make public disclosure a significant risk. As a board, we must act as faithful stewards of those entrusted to our care: "Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be." — 1 Peter 5:2 Our priority is protecting the 72-hour experience for every pilgrim and caterpillar. We are currently working on the following: Community-Only Access: We are exploring legal, private ways to share Pilgrim names with the Emmaus community only. Chrysalis Privacy: For the safety of our minors, Chrysalis names will not be shared, even within the community. Sponsor Action: We ask sponsors to be diligent in gathering letters and encourage the community to attend weekend events to show their support in person. We understand this is a difficult change, but it was made prayerfully to protect our flock. Thank you for your patience and your grace. God Bless, The Campbellsville Emmaus Board

  • Sponsorship Info | emmaus

SPONSORSHIP: More than just filling out the paperwork SPONSORSHIp FORMS Download these documents to fill out and submit. Click on Icon to Download Application. Clergy Volunteer Sheet Volunteer Sheet Click on icon to download application for an Emmaus Walk Sponsorship is the lifeblood of each community. We all want a positive weekend to take place and the Pilgrim to start off correctly. Regardless how you were sponsored, we all need to consider how to and whom to sponsor. We really need to focus on the important details of sponsoring a candidate to an Emmaus/Chrysalis event. First consideration in sponsoring is prayer; you should be in prayer for the individual that God is leading you to approach about the Walk. If married, you should be willing to sponsor both husband and wife. Sponsoring even one person in the nurturing love of the community is a time-consuming activity. Will the added burden of sponsoring another person on the same Walk compromise your ability to be a good sponsor? Perhaps you could obtain someone to co-sponsor in order that all the responsibilities of sponsorship are adequately met. CONSIDERING SPONSORSHIP? Who Should you sponsor? Leaders in your church; those who used to be leaders (but are burned out); quiet leaders (those who work in the background and never seek recognition); your pastor (you need to be in your pastor’s corner rather than cornering your pastor); anyone seeking a closer walk with the Lord. Who should you NOt Sponsor? Non-Christians; those with emotional problems (the Walk is not an emotional fix); church hoppers; or those looking for the next “warm fuzzy.” Remember the Emmaus community is not a church and never meant to be or take the place of the Church. It is a tool to strengthen the Church. Christians share the Good News of Jesus Christ with the world and the Walk to Emmaus shares disciplining opportunities with Christians that will strengthen their walk with our Lord. Any potential candidate/pilgrim who is unable to stay the entire 72 hours of the Walk should be told that he/she should wait until a time when they can stay the entire time. AFTER THE WALK As sponsors we should be prepared to sponsor the Pilgrims during their 4th days. This means helping them get involved in their church, help them get into a accountability group or help them start one, and to become actively involved in the activities of the Campbellsville Emmaus community. It takes time, effort, and long-term commitment on your part as the sponsor to do these things; you should not expect someone else or "the community" to do this. The time gap between our Walk events is the period when most of the new Pilgrims fall away, primarily because we are so focused on the next Walk that we forget to reach out to disciple those who just joined the community. Maintaining contact and encouragement during this time after the Walk is vital to help them feel as if they belong, and ultimately to the strength of our community. Campbellsville Emmaus Community Inc. Attn: Registrar PO Box 4155 Campbellsville, KY 42719 We ALL make up the community and it is the responsibility OF ALL to sponsor well, to teach, and to train. Prayerfully consider your commitment to intentional sponsorship.
